For those who have wondered about whether or not they are getting the Internet speeds that they pay for, the FCC has found that many actually do, and more. A study in September revealed that the major broadband Internet providers in the United States have been able to provide speeds reaching 97% of the speeds that they advertise. This is a steady increase from a report that came out just two years earlier, which showed that providers were only reaching 87% of the speeds they advertised.

Many of the major broadband providers in the U.S. have actually exceeded the Internet speeds that they claim to have, which is clearly great for consumers. Companies such as Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon and ViaSat showed service speeds that were higher than they advertise. ViaSat showed the most impressive numbers at 137% of its advertised speeds.

While some companies showed amazing service numbers, many did not. Qwest, Windstream, AT&T and Verizon’s DSL Internet had speeds that were shown in the study to be below what they advertised. Windstream showed the lowest figures, which came in at around 81% of their advertised speeds. You don’t have to pay full price for AT&T service. Save on Uverse with any number of ATT uverse coupon codes .

DSL was shown in the FCC report to have the lowest speeds when compared to cable and fiber services. Fiber services were proven to be very fast as expected, and performed at an average of 115% of their advertised service speeds. Many broadband users today are on tiered service plans and have been changing to faster tiers for improved speeds.

The FCC is adamant about the continued improvement of Internet service in the U.S. Consumers continue to demand faster speeds, and many providers are working diligently to ensure that they get them. The study also showed a steady improvement in the speeds offered by satellite Internet service, which as been known to be slow in the past.

The Apple icloud is the virtual storage locker that has been offered to those consumers that have an Apple product. This is available for millions that own the iPad, iPod and iPhone for free. People that want additional space must pay extra, but 5GB is offered to everyone with an Apple account ID.

These accounts are becoming what people are using to store things like music and videos. It is easy to use the cloud because it is web-based. Apple products do not have removable storage options so this is a helpful storage addition for people that are portable. It allows people to view files that may otherwise be inaccessible while away from home.

The concept of the cloud or virtual storage locker was profound because it allows people to keep files handy without resorting to a portable hard drive or flash drive. All that people have to do is download the app or visit the website to upload files.

Apple cloud users also have the advantage of storing apple files for web streaming. This is a big deal for many users that have Apple TV. This is just part of the way that customers can share information between their computers and their televisions. The ability to put files in the cloud makes everything easier for consumers. You don’t have to know how it works. There is no configuration to do. It simply works. This is what the Apple concepts are based on. There are no complicated features to Apple products and the cloud technology is built on this same great concept.

More people are experiencing the Apple cloud because it is convenient. It is similar to Drop Box or Sugar Synch, but it is built exclusively for Apple customers. This is the way that Apple is enticing customers to continue using exclusive Apple products. They provide a certain amount of free storage options. This allows you to synchronize.

A large number of people have multiple Apple devices. The easiest way to share the content is through synchronizing from the cloud. The Apple cloud allows you to pull all your photos and music across all of your hardware. This is a big time saver for lots of consumers. The majority of people that using Apple devices would like to share recorded videos or music without individually synching all these devices. The apple cloud provides the best way to do it.

People tend to be as loyal to their Internet browsers as they are to their preference for Coke or Pepsi. So it’s no surprise, then, that Internet Explorer has been the number one used Internet browser for years.

In the past four years, Internet Explorer has had over 30% of the web browser usage market. Chrome is a close second with usage rates hovering around 30% and Firefox comes in at third with any where from 20 to 25% of the market.

Usage rates are calculated by unique visitors and are supplied by such sources as StatCounter, Clicky, Net Application and W3Counter. Usage is often broken down by month so that browsers can see trends.

In addition to trends from month to month, there are also some specific geographic trends in web browser. For example, Firefox is the most used browser in Germany while Internet Explorer is the primary browser in China.

It’s not uncommon to see such wide regional variations. For example, similar patterns can be seen within the U.S. with broadband providers. Xfinity, the rebranded Comcast, is the dominant provider in the North East and out West. AT&T U-Verse, the fiber optic network part of AT&T, is just rolling out their home broadband services and can be found predominantly down South and throughout the Mid West.

To maintain a competitive edge, some companies have unique “offerings”. Firefox, for instance, is a free and open source browser which improves utility and user experience. While broadband companies can’t, or really won’t, provide any free services, they do entice users with other offerings, such as gift cards, free DVRs and even no-contract plans. You can get such deals with an ATT UVerse coupon code, or find offers from other broadband providers online.

It’ weird to think of web browser usage as a business, but like any other utility, it definitely is. With continued innovation, top security and web standards, Firefox will remain a top contender.

Various methods exist for an individual or business to protect their data. Securing important data is not limited to banks and other companies with sensitive data that needs to be protected. To do this you will need to consider all of the options that you have available.

Create a Backup

The best way to protect your data is to create a backup. This can be done by running a program on your system and copying the information to a flash drive. Another option is to upload your backup file to the Internet. Many cloud services can be used to store all types of data files. If you choose to use store data locally, the use of a flash drive or an external hard drive is an option. You can easily remove an external hard drive or a flash drive from your system to store in a different place.

Use Software Encryption

Important data that is on a desktop computer, a laptop computer, a flash drive or an external hard drive can be encrypted. To do this you need to use software that can encrypt data on a drive or to prevent the access to this data. Search online for software that is available. You can find software for purchase and software that is free to use.

Transfer of Data

Verify that essential data such as files and documents are not sent over a non-secured media. Make sure that important data is not sent via email or transferred to a flash drive or other storage medium unless it has been properly secured. If you use a cloud service for data, a password is used and data is send using encryption that is enabled in your web browser. Make sure that you do not post messages, images or files to social media sites that contain any sensitive information. You may not be able to retract information that you post to social media sites.

Patching Your Software

Software that includes the operating system for your computer and other installed products will require patching on a regular basis. Companies that find holes or security issues with their software will send a path or product update for users to install. This installation is done either automatically or manually for a specific system or user.

Viruses and Malware

Prevent a virus or malware from compromising your important data by running anti-virus software and anti-spyware programs regularly. This is needed if you are regularly on the Internet or install a program that has been downloaded. Infections by a virus or malware can severely compromise your system. The nature of an infection will often prevent you from using your computer. Files that are downloaded online of received in email need to be scanned by your anti-virus software or anti-spyeare software for infections. This needs to be done before attempting to install or open any type of file on your system. There is a small chance that a file could contain a Trojan or virus that can infect your system.

Businesses get direct access to their customer’s lives and social networks by creating profiles on these networks. Customers receive mutually beneficial deals, discounts and special offers by establishing this relationship. Here are the top ten social sites businesses need to engage.

Facebook, the top social media network, uses business pages to let businesses market to their customer base. They also provide tools like Facebook ads to target specific users with like interests that fit their marketing demographic.

Twitter, allows you to extend your reach to others in your industry. By uploading your blog posts, tweeting about industry news and answering customer’s questions, you extend your authority and brand your company.

Pinterest drives more referral traffic than LinkedIn, Reddit, Google+ and YouTube combined. You upload your products, how-to tutorials and videos to this site, and enjoy referral traffic to your website. Pinterest is great for businesses who market primarily to women, as Pinterest users are typically women between the ages of 25-45. Pinterest integrates with Twitter and Facebook offering extended reach into your customer’s social media networks.

LinkedIn, the Facebook for businesses, lets businesses network with other businesses. You create a profile that best represents the face of your company. You post job advertisements on their boards to recruit new people. LinkedIn Answers offers a venue to extend your authority and expertise by answering questions posed by your industry peers.

Yelp is a rating tool for customers. They receive excellent or terrible service by your establishment that makes them want to review your company. The compnay receives a starred review depending on the customer experience. Yelp is indexed by the search engines. You want a 5-star review to pop up when someone enters your business name into Google.

Foursquare is a check-in social media network. Customers go to your brick-and-mortar business. When they get there, they check-in to your establishment. Their check-in broadcasts to their entire network acting as a pseudo-recommendation for your establishment. In return, for so many check-ins you offer a discount or a special deal for their participation in checking in to your business.

Tumblr, a blogging platform, is hugely popular with the youth culture. When they fall into your demographic, creating a Tumblr blog showcasing the creative side of your business can garner your business new customers. Tumblr blogs typically showcase creative, media-rich blogs on which Tumblr users comment on, like and re-blog. Tumblr also integrates with Facebook offering you extended reach into member profiles when they like or comment on your content.

YouTube is a great platform for uploading videos and marketing your products. Users view your video, comment and share it on their social media network of choice. YouTube is easily embedded in websites and shared on sites like Pinterest. YouTube receives a lot of traffic that will refer back to your website when you create high quality, valuable videos.

Google+ is changing the way Google displays the search engine results. Search engine results are now personalized depending on the person’s Google+ account. You want to make connections on Google+ if only to get in their search engine results. Google+ also offers virtual hangouts, back links and referral traffic to your website.

Flickr is a photo-sharing platform for sharing great images. You take photos of your company, products, events and how-tos and upload them. Flickr users get to browse your images using their own accounts. Flickr also integrates with your own website.

Computers are usually filled with data. This is what makes up games, music videos and movies. Usually, this information is stored on the computer’s hard drive. Some computer users rely on removable storage devices, such as a thumb drive or a CD to help them hold their data. When a computer’s hard drive gets filled with data, the machine will run slower. There may also be issues with losing data in the event of an emergency, and this is another reason why cloud storage is preferable. Cloud storage is a way of storing data at an off-site location. This data is then accessible over a type of network such as the Internet. Users can retrieve their information whenever they want from anywhere in the world.

The basic concept behind cloud storage is that a third party stores data at another location. These firms usually offer economical plans, and the price is based on the amount of data that is kept on their computers. This information is transmitted via the Internet. Users can access their data from anywhere in the world as long as they have access to the web.

Most cloud storage providers rely on the use of large warehouses that are filled with computers. These data centers are used to store data and ensure that it is always accessible. Usually, there is more than one copy of data made. This is necessary, so that owners can always get the data that they have trusted to the clouds. There may even be multiple power sources used in the data center to prevent power outages from interfering with the services that are provided.

There are literally hundreds of different cloud storage systems, and they are designed for the multiple needs of personal and business users. Some businesses have their own clouds, so that employees can access the data that is central to their job. One example of a cloud storage system is an e-mail service. This is an easy to understand cloud storage. It simply provides a service that stores the information in e-mails and makes this data accessible to users. Owners can use their password and log into their account from their personal computer via the Internet. There are also storage systems that are designed to hold pictures, music and videos. Some tablets are compatible with cloud storage, and this makes it easy for owners to keep their music and movies, so that their machine stays efficient.

Cloud storage is literally taking the world by storm, and this type of system is known for its beneficial features. Many run out of room on their computers, and they need to find somewhere to hold their data. Other computer users need to ensure their data is safe, and they need to find a place where they can back-up their information in case something happens. This is where cloud storage steps in. These providers have warehouses of computers where they can keep data safe and accessible.

Industry press and sales copy frequently mention virtual computing, virtual servers, cloud computing and cloud servers. As a consumer of these services, you need to understand these terms at some level to help you determine if a given hosting provider or other vendor can actually deliver the full value of these services.

What Is Wrong With Good Old-Fashions Servers?

When the hardware that a server runs on needs to be replaced, it must be shut down. The IT staff installs the server operating system on the new hardware along with other software, then configures it to run smoothly on the hardware. This can take from hours to days, requiring skilled IT staff for the duration. Most of this can be done in advance for a planned upgrade, but for a hardware failure, IT personnel must get the server back up within a reasonable amount of time, sometimes up to a couple of days. With the adoption of the Internet, the definition of “reasonable” has shrunk to minutes and is headed for “instantaneous.”

What is Virtual?

In the computer field, the word “virtual” refers to something that appears to be a physical device but is really simulated with software. Software, called a virtual device, can be written to simulate the behavior of any mechanical or electronic device. The virtual device is not virtual reality where you can actually see the device working with your eyes, but a virtual device will interact with software just like a physical device would.

A Virtual Server Runs on a Virtual Machine

How does this help shorten the task of hardware changes? If you expand the virtual device idea to include all the hardware in a computer, you end up with a virtual machine. A virtual server is just all the server software installed on a virtual machine. The virtual machine is created by software known as a virtual machine supervisor program, sometimes called a hypervisor.

Once you have a virtual server, when you need to upgrade the hardware, you only need to copy the virtual server to the new hardware with a hypervisor installed, and you are ready to go. This requires far less staff time. You may also run more than one virtual machine simultaneously on the same hardware. This can save money on hardware when you need to run two servers that require different server operating systems. For example, you can have one physical machine, simultaneously running multiple virtual servers (ex. one Window Server, one Linux and one running a beta version of the next release of Windows Server).

Virtual Server Limitations

The virtual server enables you to reduce down time to a few minutes for hardware failures and upgrades. How do you get down to seconds or less? Virtual servers are great, but they still have limitations. For example, a virtual server is tied to a physical computer. Although you can now move a virtual server to new hardware quickly, the procedure still takes the intervention of IT personnel. Another potential weakness is that if there is a spike in the demand on one of the virtual servers, the performance of all of the virtual servers on that hardware can suffer.

A Cloud Server is Never Off-line

A cloud server is like a virtual server, except it is not restricted to run on one physical computer. The cloud consists of hundreds of physical machines, called nodes. Each node has its own processors and memory, and each can access any disk and run tasks for any cloud server. If you are browsing a site that is running on a cloud server, you will not notice anything different about it, except that the site is responsive, with no intermittently slow pages. Each task the virtual server performs, like serving a web page or running a database query, can run on whichever node has the least to do at that time.

This also means that failure of one of the physical nodes in the cloud has little effect overall. If the cloud has 500 nodes and one fails, the other 499 can take up the slack without stressing the system as a whole. Hardware upgrades are never needed for an individual cloud server, because as the demand for an individual cloud server grows, it will naturally begin to use more nodes. Although the cloud itself needs new nodes added and replaced, this is an on-going process that rarely, if ever, interferes with the availability of an individual cloud server.

What’s Next?

No doubt, you noticed the progression in an increasing level of sophistication as these ideas were explained. It is hard to imagine what the next level would be beyond cloud servers. You are likely to see the cloud in an increasing variety of uses. Being able to seamlessly access the cloud to extend the power of your laptop, tablet or mobile device is probably not too far off for apps that require massive amounts of memory or processing power. However, if you see an obvious next level of sophistication beyond cloud computing, or have a killer application that would be uniquely enabled by the cloud, do not tell a soul, not even your mother. Then immediately do a search for “patent attorney.”

The cloud term refers to the abstract nature of the technology and the lack of a physical location. Cloud computing relies a lot on the sharing of software and resources to create economy of scale. This is similar to an electricity grid, and services are usually supplied over a network such as the Internet.

Cloud computing services are offered by a service provider that centralizes the data, software, computation and applications over a single network. This reduces the need for end users to have knowledge of the various applications. The software and data are usually stored in the clouds at a remote location. The cloud providers work hard to give better performance to end users. This is in contrast to having all of the data and software kept on the end user’s computer.

There are several key characteristic to cloud computing, and here are some of the common features of this type of service.

Agility - The computing system can easily be modified to reflect changing needs in an organization.

Application Programming Interface - This provides accessibility to programs that are designed to act in the same way as the interaction between humans and computers.

Cost - The services of cloud computing are designed to be reduced. The capital outlay is condensed to monthly expenses. There is no need for a firm to buy the software they need. Instead the sofware is rented through the cloud service provider.

Geographical Freedom - The cloud is usually provided over a network like the Internet. This means that anyone can access the cloud over the network and have access to data, computational power and software.

Security - There is more security in cloud-based services due to the centralization of data. This is a complex issue though, and there are some experts who believe this system is actually less secure than keeping data stored on in-house machines.

Cloud computing owes its origins to the beginning of the Internet. The cloud term is used to denote a cloud that has all of the data and software. Any end computer user can then use their physical machine to access the powers that are held in the clouds. This is much the same way that telephones and electric utilities have been seen in the past. Anyone who has a link to the network can receive the benefits of the system.

Cloud computing is more popular than ever, and it ostensibly offers savings for business and personal computer use. The highlight of this type of service is that users pay a fee to access the features in the cloud. There are several different particular systems, and public and private clouds are often referred to in the industry. The differences depend on the number of people who have access to what is contained in the clouds. There are a number of benefits to cloud computing, and it can eliminate the need for a geographical link to a computer system.

Webswell Cloud enables easy migration of existing applications to cloud platform.

It is a comprehensive solution for those who need to process large amount of raw data from business or technological processes.

It converts semi-compatible data types from various sources to map reduce compatible sets and process them on distributed cloud nodes.

The Challenge

Terabytes of data on geographically distributed sites

Existing applications that do not support cloud architecture

Incompatible or partially compatible data types that do not fit map-reduce paradigm

Various data storage files and databases

Complex process-driven data operations are required, with possibility to redefine algorithms on the fly without programming

Need for accurate, valid results provided via multiple protocols to multiple consumers

Web interface to present data results

The Solution

Standard cloud core that provides access to multiple types of data sources

Built-in data collectors an mappers that collect data from data sources and pre-process them so that they can be used by map reduce distributed system. This process uses visual wizards

Complex data processing (such as summaries, aggregations, sorting, complex searches, classifications, conditions and loops) can be defined dynamically without or with minimum of programming required

Processing results can be mapped on the data structures that are required by applications or are human readable

We are business-oriented
We at Webswell strongly believe that a key point of every effort is improving the customer’s business. It’s always business in the background that really matters, not technology. Therefore we spend a lot of time studying the business of our customers, trying to understand the industry specifics. This is the elementary point of success in any IT project.

We are flexible
We are not strictly oriented at any technology and are able to conform to our customers requirements. Based on our experience companies have invested large amounts of resources in building information systems so we believe that the right way is to extend the existing system rather than building the new one, modern and … more expensive. We support different platforms, ERPs, databases, technologies and techniques that are commonly used nowadays and we mastered techniques of integration of systems on different levels, according to customers needs.

We are inexpensive
Webswell is able to offer its services at very attractive price. We can deliver our integration solutions based exclusively on Open Source technologies so the customer does not pay for software licenses. Commercial software is used only on customers request.
Another big advantage is that our development centre is located in Prague, in Central Europe. Thanks to lower labor price there our solutions are cheaper compared to US integrators. Location of our development does not affect the quality of services in any sense.
